MediAI, a Singapore-based health technology startup, has raised $500 million in a Series B funding round led by Temasek Holdings and SoftBank Vision Fund. The company's AI-powered diagnostic platform aims to bring quality healthcare access to underserved communities across Southeast Asia.
The platform uses advanced computer vision and natural language processing to assist local healthcare workers in diagnosing over 200 common medical conditions. By analyzing medical images, patient symptoms, and health records, the system provides diagnostic suggestions with clinical accuracy comparable to specialist physicians.
MediAI has already deployed its platform in over 3,000 rural health clinics across Indonesia, where it has facilitated over 5 million diagnostic consultations. The new funding will enable expansion into the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, and Myanmar by the end of 2026.
Founder Dr. Priya Sharma highlighted the impact: "In many rural communities, the nearest specialist is hours away. Our platform empowers local health workers to identify conditions early, refer appropriately, and save lives that would otherwise be lost to late diagnosis."
The World Health Organization has endorsed the platform's approach, citing it as a model for leveraging AI to address healthcare disparities in developing nations. The company has also established partnerships with local governments to integrate the platform into national health systems.
