SpaceX has successfully deployed the first module of Vast Space's Haven-1 commercial space station using its Starship launch vehicle, marking a pivotal moment in the commercialization of low Earth orbit. The module was placed in a 400-kilometer orbit with precision, demonstrating Starship's capability as a heavy-lift platform for space infrastructure.

Haven-1 is designed to serve as a multi-purpose orbital platform for scientific research, manufacturing, and space tourism. The module includes state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, crew quarters for up to four astronauts, and observation cupolas with panoramic views of Earth.

Vast Space CEO Max Haot described the launch as "the beginning of a new space economy." The company plans to deploy three additional modules over the next 18 months, creating a full-scale space station that can host both commercial and government missions.

Several pharmaceutical companies have already booked time on Haven-1 for microgravity drug development research. The unique conditions of space enable the creation of crystal structures and biological compounds impossible to produce on Earth.

The cost of reaching orbit has plummeted thanks to SpaceX's fully reusable Starship system. Launch costs are now approximately $10 million per flight, compared to $500 million for traditional expendable rockets, making commercial space operations economically viable for the first time.

NASA has expressed interest in using Haven-1 as a potential gateway for future lunar missions, further validating the commercial space station concept.
