Tesla's Robotaxi Fleet Launches in 12 Major European Cities

Tesla has officially launched its Robotaxi service in 12 major European cities simultaneously, marking a historic expansion of autonomous transportation. The fleet of purpose-built vehicles began operations in Paris, Madrid, Rome, Amsterdam, Munich, Stockholm, Vienna, Brussels, Lisbon, Warsaw, Copenhagen, and Zurich.

The launch follows 18 months of successful pilot programs in Berlin and London, where the vehicles completed over 2 million rides with an impeccable safety record. Tesla's Full Self-Driving technology has evolved significantly, now handling complex European road conditions including narrow medieval streets and varied traffic regulations.

European regulators have been working closely with Tesla to establish safety frameworks. The EU's new Autonomous Vehicle Directive, passed last year, created a unified regulatory environment that enabled this simultaneous multi-country launch.

Pricing is competitive with traditional ride-hailing services, with Tesla positioning the service at approximately 30% below current Uber prices in most markets. The company expects to reduce prices further as the fleet scales.

Local taxi unions have expressed concerns about job displacement, prompting several cities to implement transition programs for traditional taxi drivers. Tesla has committed to hiring former taxi drivers as fleet managers and customer support specialists.
